Day 5- A "race" to the French quarter

Today started like all the others (with Karin on the bull horn:) with 1 exception. We had 2 challenges instead of just one. The first challenge was to get a picture by pump one of every Loves, Pilot, and Flying J that we passed. As usual if you got a picture with a cop you got double the points. The second challenge was to see who had the best gas mileage. (We filled up at one Loves, refueled at another, and did the math.)  The rest of the trip was driving the trip as quickly as possible to make it to New Orleans by the 7:30 cut off time for points.

We used our knowledge of Myth Busters Episodes to maximize our fuel efficiency. We taped up the seams on the front of the car and window, topped it off to the top of the filler neck, and drove 55-60 mph with the windows up and the AC off. When we got to the refuel gas station we put 2.208 gallons in the car. That makes our fuel efficiency 52 mpg. Whooot!!!

OK, I will admit that we think that there was something very wrong with the pump, because a minivan was only able to put .8 gallons of gas in their car when they arrived and they zoomed past us (twice).

The view from our Hotel.

Our Dinner.  Shrimp from by the gulf.  There's nothing else quite like it.

 So the winners are....

For the “Spirit of the Event”/least bang for their buck: The 2 Horsemen of the Carpocalypse
(They ended up changing a head gasket among other issues.)

In 3rd place: The Crapa

In 2nd place: The Honey Wagon

In 1st place: The Foolswagon

We would like to thank Justin and Karin for hosting this event! We had a ball!!

After the awards ceremony, we walked Bourbon Street where Julie and I rode a mechanical whale. (No I will not post the incriminating photographs of that!!) Chris and I found a cozy little Jazz club and listened to a few sets of a Jamil Sharif (a trumpet player). We ended up buying his CD.
